Callicoon Station was voted Best Local Band by The River Reporter Readers in 2021. Our dear departed friend, fine musician, bass player, singer and generous good guy, Chip Forelli, was a beloved member of the band. Since he passed, all of our shows are dedicated to his memory. Happily, Jim Lownes, moved to our area and we have been thrilled to have Jim as our bass player. An LA native, he plays upright, fretless and Precision bass, co-arranges & co-produces our songs for live and recorded versions.
(Thanks for sending Jim, Chip.).
Brewster Smith, singer/songwriter/guitarist/percussionist extraordinaire has written songs that rock and beautiful ballads that may open hearts. Former co-owner of Rafter’s Tavern in Callicoon, when he’s not penning his witty & sensitive tunes, he’s coaching clients from all over the map in power & presence.
Elizabeth Rose, singer/songwriter/guitarist/keyboards, is a serial performer. Her one woman musical comedy, “Relative Pitch,” was produced Off Broadway by the iconic Cherry Lane Theatre. (It previewed first at The Tusten Theatre). Her music video, “The Set Aside Song,” was screened at last year’s Big Eddy Film Festival. Her songs have been featured in various media. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL). Also, she co-hosts the popular Songwriters Night: NYC @ The Bitter End 4x a year. She needs a lot of attention.
Jim Lownes, can bow, pluck, slap and groove on a variety of basses. His groove drives the band forward. A retired middle school music teacher (i.e.: “survivor”), Jim has built and is running a first class recording studio. He plays, writes, produces, engineers, mixes & masters beautiful songs by music creators on both coasts.
Don Castellow, plays baritone sax, clarinet, contra-bass clarinet and low Irish whistle (that he fabricated), wearing the moniker “low horn” that blues legend Pinetop Perkins gave him while on tour. He’s also toured with Boz Scaggs and played on The Rosie O’Donnell Show. Locals are aware of his talents running audio for Rafter’s Tavern. A somewhat self-effacing, gentle man from Yorktown VA, he taught elementary band and a penny whistle course of his own design in the South Bronx for many years. He raised the funds for this venture. Four of his students were accepted into the Jazz @ Lincoln Center Middle School Jazz Band & one to a Julliard series. His program received two Save The Music Awards from VH-1 and was featured on NY1. But he’ll never tell you that.
Please join us on All Hallows Eve for a night of mostly original tunes, harmonies, great grooves and joy.
Many thanks to Kathy Geary & The Arts Nest for inviting us to perform on Halloween. Oh yeah…we’re going all Halloween-y!!
